Procedure

Eyelid

Also known as “blepharoplasty”. Eyelid lift surgery trims away the excess skin on both the upper eyelids and lower eyelids or on each section individually, and as a result, it improves the appearance of the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. Additionally, this procedure can help to reduce the appearance of under-eye hollows and bags. Therefore, it will give a rejuvenated appearance to the surrounding area of your eyes, making you look more rested and alert.

Benefits and Risks

The benefits of eyelid surgery are both aesthetic and functional. Aesthetic benefits include a more youthful appearance, improved self-confidence, and a more awake and alert appearance. Functional benefits include improved vision due to the removal of sagging skin and improved comfort due to the reduction of eyelid puffiness.

As with any surgery, eyelid surgery carries certain risks. These risks include bleeding, infection, scarring, asymmetry, vision changes, and dry eyes. However, the risks of eyelid surgery are generally low and can be minimized by choosing a qualified and experienced surgeon.

Safety and Recovery

Eyelid surgery is generally considered safe when performed by a qualified and experienced surgeon. To ensure safety, it is important to choose a surgeon who is board-certified and has experience in performing eyelid surgery. Additionally, it is important to disclose any medical conditions or medications that could increase the risk of complications during or after the procedure.

The recovery period after eyelid surgery typically lasts around 1-2 weeks. During this time, patients may experience swelling, bruising, and discomfort around the eyes. It is important to follow the surgeon’s post-operative instructions to ensure a smooth recovery. These instructions may include taking medications to manage pain, applying cold compresses to reduce swelling, and avoiding strenuous activities.

Cost and Price Differences

The cost of eyelid surgery can vary depending on several factors such as the surgeon’s experience, the geographic location of the procedure, the extent of the surgery, and the facility where the procedure is performed. In the United States, the cost of upper eyelid surgery typically ranges from $4,000 to $8,000, while lower eyelid surgery costs between $4,000 and $8,000. The total cost of the procedure can be higher if both upper and lower eyelids are treated.

Mexico is known for its medical tourism industry, which offers affordable medical procedures to international patients. The cost of eyelid surgery in Mexico can be significantly lower than in the United States, with prices ranging from 40% to 60% less than USA prices.

The Best Candidates

A blepharoplasty procedure is usually performed on adult men and women who have healthy facial tissue and muscles and have realistic goals for the improvement of the upper and/or lower eyelids and surrounding area. Certainly, the best candidates are healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical conditions that can impair healing, non-smokers, individuals with a positive outlook and specific goals in mind for blepharoplasty, or individuals without serious eye conditions. Also, patients with excess skin obscuring the natural fold of the upper eyelids, loose skin hanging down from the upper eyelids, perhaps impairing vision, a puffy appearance to the upper eyelids, making the eyes look tired, excess skin and fine, “crepe paper type” wrinkles of the lower eyelids, bags and dark circles under the eyes and lower eyelid droopiness.

Eyelid

Eyelid surgery is often compared to brow lift surgery, which is another cosmetic procedure that aims to improve the appearance of the eyes. While both procedures can improve the appearance of the eyes, brow lift surgery focuses on lifting the forehead and eyebrow area, while eyelid surgery focuses on improving the appearance of the eyelids.

During eyelid surgery, the surgeon will make incisions along the natural creases of the eyelids to minimize scarring. The surgeon will then remove excess skin and fat from the upper and/or lower eyelids. The incisions are then closed using sutures or surgical tape. The entire procedure typically takes 1-2 hours and can be performed under IV sedation.
